ABSTRACT

Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a useful, practical and economical method in diagnosing palpable/ nonpalpable breast lesions. This procedure should be applied in a setting called “Scandinavian Model of Breast Aspiration Clinic”. This setting covers the application of FNAC under utrasonografi c guidance in collaboration of surgeon, radiologist and cytopathologist. This model requires on-site celluratiy control of the aspirated material, consequently acellularity is prevented. This model increases the diagnostic value of FNAC. In Turkey, we should encourage the organization breast aspiration clinics in similiar way especially in the tertiary reference hospitals.
