Objective:
The aim of this study was to investigate the stage of breast cancer at presentation, and the factors that cause delayed admission in patients operated for breast cancer.
Methods:
Data were collected retrospectively from our institutional database. Clinical, radiological, and pathological parameters were evaluated.
Results:
Non-early stage (IIB, III, IV) admission was signifi cantly correlated with the disease presenting with a non-lump symptom (p=0,022), not performing breast self-examination (p=0,019), and late admission to a doctor or surgeon (p=0,016 and 0,013 respectively).
Conclusion:
Breast self-examination and disease related education should be generalized nation-wide to improve the incidence of early stage presentation in breast cancer.
